Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery (RIRS)

Urinary tract stones occur due to high levels of chemicals that, if they continue to accumulate in the kidneys, can form crystals that resemble stones that commonly form in the kidneys.

If the size is relatively small, kidney stones can move to other organs (Ureter). Meanwhile, if the size tends to be large, kidney stones will be quite difficult to move, triggering irritation in the urinary tract.

Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery (RIRS) is an endoscopic procedure to treat kidney stones without the need for large incisions. This procedure involves inserting an endoscope through the urinary tract (ureter) to reach the kidney and remove the kidney stones.

RIRS can be performed for kidney stone patients with the following conditions:

• Patients who have undergone ESWL but the kidney stones did not break and are located in hard-to-reach areas.
• Hard kidney stones with a hardness exceeding 1000 Hounsfield Units.
• Patients with bleeding disorders, to avoid higher bleeding risks associated with other methods.
